The Volvo is going to the shop next week for some serious performance upgrades. I was pretty worried about getting screwed over on cost, and I'm pretty sure I did, since I'm under 25.
4-Days for an Economy Car: ~$188 all said and done.
$47 a day
However, when booking, I debated between Economy, which gets me a Chevy Spark/Similar or Compact, which get's me a Versa/Similar.
Was it worth the $2 upgrade?

Having had the chance to look round a Spark recently, I'd pay the $2...

$47 a day sounds about right.

Take the one without the CVT (if there is one).

You're gonna be miserable in almost any of these with their CVTs. Might as well save a couple bucks.

Is it wise to be performing serious performance upgrades to a car that is clearly your only car and therefore your daily driver?
If you have to rent a car to drive while having the work done, that means you'll also have to rent a car when something goes wrong. That could get expensive.
Just something to think about.

I used to travel to the US for work when I was under 25. Because I was not a US citizen, I was flat-out denied any rental car, from any rental agency, in multiple states. Even if I took the insurance. Even if I booked with the corporate no-limits Amex.
Employees from our customer sites would pick me up on the way to work. This worked well, but was a bit embarrassing...

What kind of serious performance upgrades we talkin?
Also, I'd stick with the cheapo. Not even worth the $2 upgrade unless you're too big to fit in the subcompact.

I stand corrected - my serious performance upgrades are an intercooler, and refreshed suspension for the most part. Serious as in co$t.

Ah, so nothing that might cause your car to blow up. Carry on then.

Next up is meth injection. That, itself is another story.

My Enterprise experience consisted of booking a truck for my honeymoon (where I gave them all of my information) and then was told upon my arrival that I was under 25 and couldn't have a truck. Needless to say, I was pissed.
